83-years old
100+ jiggers removed by Sole Hope

These are some of the numbers that describe Obama’s life. He came to Sole Hope in Uganda a few months ago along with one of his wives and several children. Everyone was suffering terribly from jiggers, those insidious sand fleas that burrow into feet, hands and elsewhere and reek havoc with their host’s body.

“If you have jiggers you end up discriminated against. No one wants to talk to you. No one wants to be your friend. No one wants to come near you,” laments Obama as he thinks back. People with jiggers are often considered cursed and ostracized as a result.

Obama and his family are now jigger free. “Sole Hope is my life,” he says. “Without Sole Hope I would not be what I am today. I’m so glad and thankful I came. They have done a great work looking after me and my kids, seeing that they get a better life and better future.” Obama is now employed by Sole Hope as a gate keeper and also helps with grounds maintenance. He crisply salutes guests as they arrive. “Sole Hope is helping people who don’t have hope for tomorrow.”
